50th Anniversary!

Help celebrate the past and seed the future

Since 1975, The People’s Alliance has helped bring neighbors together to organize around the issues that matter. Durham’s progress has always been collective, and so has the work of People’s Alliance.

This year, we are celebrating fifty years of people-powered organizing and looking ahead to the next generation of leadership and community action.

50th Anniversary Events

Sing Out for Justice and Songbook Release In April

In the early 1980s People’s Alliance created a movement songbook used at rallies and organizing gatherings. This year PA reissued the songbook and invited the community in for a joyful Sing Out. Enjoy the event photos here and donate so we can share more songbooks into Durham for future rallies and marches.

Amendment One Panel in June

Organizers and community leaders shared strategies and stories about the fight against North Carolina’s Amendment One and the coalition that came together in Durham to oppose it. Panelist and attendees showed the state what it looks like to organize for what is right, stay true to our values, and build a campaign that lifts up every voice without compromise.

"But during the Amendment One campaign, I started to realize that not everyone saw my family that way. Some people put us in a different box." Read Jake Terry-Edmunds full remarks at this LINK. More videos from the event can be found on the People's Alliance YouTube channel.
